The 20th SPREP Meeting closed on Friday 20, November 2009, with the below speech delivered by Ms. Teboranga Tioti of Kiribati, the Chairperson of the meeting.
Distinguised delegates, SPREP Director, Deputy Director, Programme and Support Services, CROP Agency representatives, Development Partners, Ladies and Gentlemen.
It is my great honour this time to congratulate all of you for the success of this meeting. I believe you have achieved it by way of working together in a "one team spirit", doing things collaboratively in an excellent manner despite having the differences in views and opinions. I thank you very, very much in this regard.
Now, I want to extend my sincere thanks and appreciations to the following:
The Government and people of Samoa for the warm welcome and support we have received since the first time we arrived in Samoa. It is indeed, this is not the first time to receive such excellent reception. I thank Samoa Honourable Minister for Natural Resources and Environment for his speecheds delivered in the Official opening and at the Cocktail receoption which he hosted. Achievements made by Samoa in the area of Environment provide future pathways to move forward. SPREP Director, David Sheppard, Deputy Director, Kosi Latu for their excellent technical support and advice throughout the meeting, your professionalisms are much felt by the meeting. I thank you both and wish you well in the coming years ahead of you. My same appreciation also goes to SPREP Programme Officers and Support Staff. You have demonstrated the high quality achievements in meeting your respective targets. You should be congratulated for that. For our development partners, your continuous supports are much appreciated and most valued. For CROP Agencies, your valuable inputs are also most acknowledged and welcomed. Not to forget the Drafting Committee for the report who have successfully completed in time. To the Interpreters for their hard work. Also not to forget the hardworking transport colleagues who have provided the services.
Last, but not least, my many thanks again in accepting me as a Chairperson on behalf of the Government of Kiribati, throughout the meeting. I hope you are happy with my conduct and leadership.
With all those words, the 20th SPREP Meeting is now closed with the "3 Kiribati Blessings" - Te Mauri, Te Raoi ao Tabomoa.
