UNITAR
and SPREP through the C3D+ programme are assisting Pacific Island
countries to address climate change through developing adaptation
measures and building their capacity to effectively respond to
climate change. It is closely aligned to the PACC project which
is funded by the GEF and Implemented through the UNDP and SPREP.
The
C3D+ project is supported by a grant from the European Commission.
Partner institutions collaborating with SPREP under this project
include; the International Institute for Sustainable Development
(IISD), the Stockholm Environmental Institute (SEI), Climate System
Analysis Group (CSAG), Munasinghe Institute for Sustainable Development
(MIND). The C3D+ SPREP component is part of the larger “Capacity
Development for Adaptation to Climate Change and GHG Mitigation”
project.
This
partnership with SPREP is geared towards: -
- Ensuring
that the development of under-resourced and vulnerable Pacific
countries be more sustainable by integrating climate change
issues into their national sustainable development strategies;
and
- Enhancing
relevant human and institutional capacities at SPREP and targeted
Pacific countries through consolidation of regional centers
training capacity and the direct training of a large number
of selected trainees; and
- Assisting
Pacific countries to effectively carry out adaptation planning
and implementation.
