Yap International Waters Project

The primary focus of the IWP in the Federated States of Micronesia is to promote the many benefits associated with establishing Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMAs).

The project team is collecting and sharing information regarding the effectiveness of LMMAs with several host communities in Yap. One of the main goals is for citizens and visitors to Yap to understand the existence of LMMAs and why several municipalities have chosen this as a tool to promote sustainable fisheries in their communities. The benefits of a successful project will create even healthier marine ecosystems while also promoting tourism and other opportunities.
