Julia Manioli

Julia Manioli is one of the students sponsored by the International Waters Programme (IWP) Solomon Islands to undertake her Post-graduate Diploma in Marine Science at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG), who is doing research at the project’s pilot communities.

She is expected to collect information and data until November 2004 and she will commence drafting her thesis afterwards to be presented at UPNG in 2005.

The IWP’s National Coordinator Kenneth Bulehite said the outcome of her research work would enable her to graduate with a Post-graduate Diploma in Marine Science, and will be used by the IWP to develop a management plan for communities.

"An understanding was established by the International Waters Programme Solomon Islands and UPNG to allow the student to return back to the country to undertake research work in Solomon Islands”

“It is essential capacity building to allow students to undertake research in our environment and that such report can also be utilised by national and provincial government to develop and establish a well research and detail policies,” he said.

Mr. Bulehite added that the student would develop first hand experience and can be easily adapted into the workforce.
