SPREP's Clean Pacific 2012 Campaign received a boost with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme and the Westpac Banking Corporation this month.
The Clean Pacific 2012 Campaign is a year-long awareness campaign throughout the Pacific islands, which aims to galvanize actions to improve the management of wastes and pollution at all levels, from the individual and
community level to the highest level of government.
"Westpac's collaboration in this important campaign is an innovative partnership" said David Sheppard the Director General of the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP).
"We hope it will serve as a model for future engagement with other commercial enterprises."
Under the agreement Westpac will provide US$14,000 to support the printing and distribution of a Waste Education Handbook for schools which promotes good waste management behaviour in children, as well as informational factsheets on various waste management topics such as lead acid batteries.
"We are grateful for Westpac's contribution to the Clean Pacific campaign," said SPREP's Solid Waste Management Adviser, Ms. Esther Richards.
"Our partnership with Westpac will help us to expand our efforts in disseminating awareness materials to communities throughout the Pacific region."
