SPREP supports members in meeting their obligations under the UNFCCC and related protocols and processes. This is done through support to their national communications preparations, PIFACC implementation and their participation in negotiations at the UNFCCC Conference of Parties (COP) annual and subsidiary bodies meetings.

SPREP is also involved in development of capacity in conducting applied research, fostering meteorological, climatological and oceanic observation and monitoring programmes to improve understanding, awareness, and application of targeted responses to climate change and related disaster risk reduction through the Pacific Climate Change Portal (PCCP), Pacific Islands Geological Oceanic Observing System (PI-GOOS) and the Pacific Islands Geological Climate Observing System (PI-GCOS).

For information on regional, national and international instruments of relevance to the Pacific please see the Pacific clearing house mechanism.
