Description

In close collaboration with the regional implementation partners SPREP and SPC, the project will use innovative remote sensing techniques to map seagrass and mangroves (SaM) in four Pacific partner countries and measure and model SaM's capacity as a carbon sink, source of emissions and other ecosystem services. The data will allow to assess linked natural capital to assist governments in implementing strategic conservation, management and rehabilitation measures under the Aichi targets. Building on effective mapping and quantification approaches of SaMrelated carbon storage (monitoring, reporting, verification-MRV), government partners will be specifically supported in designing nationally appropriate incentive schemes for sustainable management and rehabilitation through NDCs and National Adaptation Programs of Action "(NAPAs).
