29 August 2025, Apia - More than a hundred Pacific government officials, partners, donors and stakeholders are gathering in Apia, Samoa, next week to discuss strategic issues pertaining to the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), and its work to ensure a resilient Pacific environment sustaining our livelihoods and natural heritage in harmony with our cultures.
The Thirty second SPREP Meeting of Officials (SM32), with the theme “Sustaining our Pacific Environment in Harmony with our Cultures”, will take place at Sheraton Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows in Samoa, from 1-5 September.
It starts on Monday with SPREP’s Partnership Dialogue, Tuesday to Thursday is the SPREP Meeting and concludes with meetings of the Waigani and Noumea Conventions on Friday.
The Thirty second SPREP Meeting of Officials takes place at a critical juncture in the Pacific’s journey. Pacific communities who stand at the frontline of the triple planetary crises continue to confront worsening lived reality of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. These challenges, on top of the impacts of global shifts in geopolitics and economies worsens already existing vulnerabilities.
SPREP’s Director General, Mr Sefanaia Nawadra, said SPREP’s mandate remains to promote cooperation in the Pacific region and provide assistance to protect and improve its environment and to ensure sustainable development for present and future generations.
“We look forward to welcoming all our SPREP member officials, partners and donors to determine together how we can continue to work together to serve our Pacific communities better,’ said Mr Nawadra.
"One of the strengths of SPREP is our ability to convene our members and partners, in this context, it is imperative to strengthen partnerships for implementation, seek to access, mobilise and diversify funding sources, and adopt innovative approaches to addressing our environmental challenges."

SPREP’s Partnership Dialogue on Monday will provide an opportunity to deepen strategic engagement between SPREP and donors and technical partners, looking beyond 2026, providing a platform to co-design forward-looking partnerships and solutions that align with current and emerging regional priorities and global commitments. These include the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and the Paris Agreement.
