Pacific and Koronivia Pavilion
Climate Change Resilience

The Pacific and Koronivia Pavilion will be a key highlight of the 24th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP24) this year.  The Pavilion is a partnership between the Government of the Republic of Fiji as Presidency of the COP23, with support from the Government of New Zealand.  The Pavilion will showcase Pacific and global climate action and innovation in the areas of agriculture and oceans at the UNFCCC COP24, in Katowice, Poland from 2 to 14 December.

The Pavilion is named Koronivia in conjunction with ‘Pacific’ to reflect the joint work plan on agriculture agreed to at COP23 in the historic breakthrough in negotiations last year.  The agreement is now helping countries develop and implement new strategies for adaptation and mitigation within the agricultural sector, to reduce emissions and build resilience to the effects of climate change.

“The Pacific, agriculture and oceans will feature strongly in the Pavilion as the three main themes of the Pavilion are the Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture, the Ocean Pathway Partnership, and the Talanoa Dialogue,” said Mr John Connor, Executive Director of the COP23 Presidency of the Republic of Fiji.

“These were chosen specifically to align with COP23 Presidency’s vision for a Presidency that is transparent and inclusive of all, advancing the Paris Agreement and accelerating climate action for vulnerable societies, drawing on our own experiences as a small island developing state in the Pacific.”

The events that will be held at the Pacific and Koronivia Pavilion will link closely to this vision and the themes of the Pavilion itself. The complete programme of events can be viewed at the Pavilion webpage on the COP23 website.

The Pavilion will be jointly managed by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and the agencies of the Council of Regional Organisations of the Pacific, namely the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat through the Office of the Pacific Ocean Commissioner, the Pacific Community and the Pacific Islands Development Forum.

The Pacific and Koronivia Pavilion will be located at the International Conference Centre (MCK) on the ground floor of Pavilion E next to the European Union Pavilion.
