Climate Change Resilience
An online tool has been developed to help Pacific islanders navigate climate finance processes and filter information on climate funds and accredited agencies relevant to the Pacific. Developed as part of the Pacific Climate Information (iCLIM) project coordinated in partnership with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), it supports the regional management of climate change information in the Pacific.

Demonstrated at the Pacific Climate Change Roundtable during the Pacific Resilience Week, the Climate Finance Navigator tool responds to the identified need for Information Knowledge Management tools within the Pacific to provide relevant information, resources and guidance on accessing climate finance.

"The broad challenge we're dealing with in Climate Finance is there is too much information that is above and beyond what could be useful. The Climate Finance Navigator tool will help users filter existing information to find resources that are relevant to the Pacific islands," said Ms Makelesi Gonelevu, Knowledge Management Officer of SPREP.

"We've been developing it since 2015, constantly working to upgrade and improve the tool based on feedback received from users to ensure that it is tailored to meet the needs of targeted users."

The Purpose of the Navigator tool is threefold; to provide general guidance to users by filtering relevant information on Accredited Entities, with a focus on the Green Climate Fund (GCF); to filter information on climate funds active in the region, both current and historical; and to provide users with a "Who's doing what" snapshot of the overall process on what responsibilities lie ahead and what resources are available along the way.

The Climate Finance Navigator tool can be accessed through the Pacific Climate Change Portal, at http://cfn.pacificclimatechange.net. It is currently still in the development stage and users are encouraged to provide feedback through the comments function on the tool.

The Pacific iClim Project is run by Griffith University in partnership with SPREP, and is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). For more information on the tool please contact Makelesi Gonelevu on email [email protected].

The Pacific Climate Change Roundtable 2017 was made possible with the generous support of the Government of Germany, the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australian Aid and CSIRO. The event has been held since 2008 on a biannual basis coordinated by SPREP and partners. The last PCCR was held in Apia in 2015.

The Pacific Resilience Week is coordinated by SPREP, the Pacific Community (SPC) the United Nations office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) with the support of partners.

From 2 to 3 October, 2017 is the Pacific Humanitarian Partnership Meeting at the Grand Pacific Hotel coordinated by United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and the Pacific Climate Change Roundtable at the Holiday Inn organised by SPREP. 4-5 October, 2017 is the Joint Pacific Climate Change Roundtable and Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk Management followed by the Regional Steering Committee for Building Safety and Resilience in the Pacific organised by SPC on 6 October, 2017. - #PRW17 #PCCR2017
