COP call for side events
Climate Change Resilience

The Moana Blue Pacific Pavilion at COP30 has opened its call for side event submissions. The Pavilion is a Pacific partnership with the Governments of Australia and New Zealand managed by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP).

Pacific Islands voices have been amplified through this partnership that builds the Pacific Islands profile and visibility in the UNFCCC COP spaces. The Thirtieth Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP30) will be held in Belem, Brazil from 10 to 21 November 2025.

The Moana Blue Pacific Pavilion will highlight our Pacific Islands, and our climate change stories of innovation, leadership, solutions and challenges.

“Every year we are proud to have this podium that highlights our Pacific Islands voices within a space whereby we must work hard together, to be heard,” said Ms Tagaloa Cooper, Director of Climate Change Resilience of SPREP.

“The numbers that attend the UNFCCC COPs are immense, its an honour for us to have a Pavilion whereby a stage is set upon which we tell our stories, have a space in which we can network and build our Pacific relations with partners, and a vibrant corner in that part of the world for our Pacific Islands delegates to feel like they are home.”

Having managed the Pavilion spaces for the Pacific Islands since COP24 in 2018, SPREP has coordinated over 70 Pacific Island events across a two-week period every year. Working in partnership with the Governments of Australia and New Zealand as well as our Pacific Small Islands Developing States, the pavilion stage has been the place to project over 300 Pacific Islands voices every year across this period, bringing our shared realities to the global stage.

For COP30 in Belem, Brazil the key priority areas to showcase are those that highlight our climate change leadership in building a resilient Pacific for a resilient world as well as stories of Pacific climate ambition. Selection for side events is based upon a range of criteria including topics, as well as overarching priority areas such as the 1.5-degree Celsius temperature goal, and Pacific islands voices, culture and tradition.

“This year we are also focussing on elevating the opportunity to deliver a landmark COP31 which amplifies Pacific voices, leadership and regional innovation,” said Ms Cooper. Australia, in partnership with the Pacific Small Islands Developing States, has submitted a bid to host COP31 in 2026.

“This is our time, as a Pacific Islands region bearing the brunt of climate change impacts, to take centre stage in the climate change arena to project and elevate our voices as we call for climate action. The Moana Blue Pacific Pavilion welcomes thousands upon thousands of people each year. We encourage you to apply for a side event and help amplify our Pacific climate change stories.”

The call for side event submissions for the Moana Blue Pacific Pavilion at COP30 will close at 5pm, 26 September, Samoa time.
