The findings of a State of Environment (SOE) Report put together by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme’s (SPREP) Environmental Monitoring and Governance Division for the Republic of Marshall Islands will be presented to key stakeholders by SPREP’s Mr Paul Anderson and Mr Kilom Ishiguro, and will cover the results of the SOE, its uses and practical application in funding proposals as well as reporting and planning for Multilateral Environmental Agreements.

The workshop will also include updates on the development of the National Environment Management Strategy (NEMS) and review of current NEMS thematic areas, to be led by Mr Jope Davetanivalu, SPREP’s Planning and Capacity Development Adviser.

The week will then wrap up with the conducting of an Environmental Impact Assessment training by SPREP staff for various representatives of Government ministries. The training will assess the impacts of a development upon the environment, and the impacts of the environment on a development, and recommends the best steps to take in planning a development while maintaining environmental integrity.
