For more than 40 years, Tusani has contributed to, and played an instrumental role in progressing the environment and conservation agenda in the Pacific. He has worked in the environment and resource management fields in Samoa and the Pacific. Through his dedication and commitment, he had successfully accomplished key notable achievements such as the establishment of the Environment and Conservation Agency of the Government of Samoa and was appointed as the first Head of the Environment Agency in 1989. In 2000, he was the manager of the first GEF US $10 million funded regional project which spearheaded the establishment of 17 community owned conservation areas in the Pacific islands region.

Has authored many publications and technical reports on environment and conservation in the Pacific islands. He plays an instrumental leadership role in the management of the Savaia Marine Protected Area and the Lefaga District MPA in Samoa and continues to provide expert advice and technical support to a number of environment and conservation activities in Samoa.

In 1990, he was recognised for his efforts and support for nature conservation and protected area activities in the Pacific region and received UNEP’s Global 500 Roll of Honor for Environmental Achievement. He also was one of the 2019 recipient of the Samoa Environment Award for his community leadership on the environment.
